IELTS Listening: Section 4 (overview – no audio)
Section 4 is usually a Lecture format (one speaker) whereby the test taker may be asked to complete a chart, similar to filling in the blanks. Test takers will realize the text on the IELTS test will use paraphrases and/or synonyms, so the difficulty increases in this section. Therefore, you may just listen for the one word that fills in the blank, but the word will be a close synonym or the idea will be paraphrased just before the blank that is to be filled in.
