CELPIP Listening: Task 5, Listening to a Discussion
Task 5, Listening to a discussion (listen and watch)
This task includes a video to watch while you listen. The video will show 3 people engaged in conversation about a problem; however, they cannot agree on how to solve the problem. Usually, the people involved are community representatives, or they all work together at the same place of employment. Test-takers will watch a video for 2 minutes and then answer 8 questions over 4 minutes (again 30 seconds maximum for each response), and the questions will be displayed on the screen. You are allowed to go back and forth between questions during this time, so you can do the easier questions first if you like.

- Podcasts or news channels are other places you can practice your listening. Here is one:
Generally speaking, listening to any form of media can help your listening ability. Try to answer the following questions every time you listen to something.
These are called pre-critical response questions (but you will never be asked for your opinion on this test)
- What is happening (the gist of the conversation)?
- Who is speaking?
- What is the tone, or what are the attitudes of the speakers?
