You must know Paragraphing – Topic sentence –‘organized response’ with Support sentences and examples/ detail. Try to speak at an even pace, not too fast or not too slow.
Read, then Speak is a task that asks the test-taker to respond in 30 to 90 seconds about a series of questions to be read on the page before them. The first thing to be read is the General Statement before a series of questions. The questions are simple ‘conversation points’ that allow you to extend your answer past the 30-second minimum limit.
- Remember, as it says in the Duolingo guide, “ just like with writing, vary your sentence structure and word choice as much as possible.”
This means that you should give an organized response when you speak as well! So, start with a topic sentence and allow the ‘questions to be the support sentences’, and then add examples. If you have time, add a concluding sentence.
For example, from the Duolingo website:
Talk about a hobby or activity that you enjoy doing.
- What is it?
- How long have you been doing it?
- Who do you do it with?
- Why is it important to you?

My favorite hobby is Reading. I have been reading all sorts of books for 15 years. Because I study Economics at college now, I tend to read more business journals and articles. It is a lonely task, but sometimes I can discuss what I read with friends or my classmates. Reading is important because I read fiction and non-fictitious books and it increases my understanding on many topics and vocabulary. These things will be important when I graduate and deal with clients after I land my first job. (88 words) |
