PTE-A Listening Task 2 – Highlight Incorrect Word (Task 2/8)
Highlight Incorrect Word:
- Remember: there is ‘negative marking’ for this task: 1 mark for a correct answer, but you lose one mark for an incorrect answer (the lowest possible score is zero).
- This is a high-scoring task: there is a maximum of 21 marks.
For this task, you will have a transcript of the recording in front of you on the page. The recording will start after 10 seconds. You are to have your computer cursor beside the first word of the text before the recording starts. Some words in the transcript will be different from what the speaker(s) says. You are to click on the words that are different.
You should skim the text quickly in the ten seconds you have before the speaker starts. Again, put the cursor at the start of the text so you are ready to click any word that doesn’t match what was said. While focusing, follow the speaker’s voice with the cursor along with the text as you listen.
Try not to guess. You will have 2 or 3 of these tasks on the exam, and the recordings are 15 – 50 seconds long. There can be as many as 7 incorrect words in the text.
For example:
