Write from Dictation:

  • Remember: never write while you listen; rather, listen first, then write.
  • This is a high-scoring task: you will get 3 or 4 sentences and you get one (1) mark for each word that is spelled correctly.
  • Always capitalize the first word (and proper nouns), and be sure to place a period at the end of the sentence.

For this task, you will hear a sentence, and you are to type the sentence in the answer box exactly as you hear it. Listen carefully and always write as much of the sentence as you can immediately after you hear it. You will have time to check the spelling and punctuation after you have written it.

You will hear the sentence only once, and the recording will begin after 7 seconds.

Remember: LISTEN FIRST, then write on paper or type as your brain cannot do 2 things simultaneously well!

For example:

After the gold rush, many people were still impoverished. (nine words = 9 potential marks)

  • They may give extra marks for punctuation but this is not mentioned in the scoring guide
