Multiple Choice Single Answer:
- Remember, you will have 2 or 3 of these tasks on the exam.
- You get 1 mark if you are correct and zero marks if you are wrong.
For the Multiple Choice Single Answer task, you will listen to the recording of 30 to 60 seconds in length and then answer the multiple-choice question by selecting the correct response from 3 to 5 options. However, only 1 response will be correct.
Before the recording starts, read the prompt carefully and ask yourself if it is asking for a cause, an inference, or the speaker’s purpose (?), Then skim the options quickly as the recording will start after 5 seconds.
While you are listening take notes of keywords and continue to listen until the end of the recording. Then re-read the prompt and the options carefully. Work to eliminate incorrect options and/or options not mentioned – refer to your notes. The context is most important, so try not to choose an option just because it has some of the same words.

So, in 2011, someone broke into my sister’s office at the university where she teaches in
Nigeria. Now thankfully, the person was caught, arrested, and charged to court. When I get into
court, the clerks who were assigned to my sister’s case informed her that they wouldn’t be able
to process the paperwork unless she paid a bribe. Now, at first, she thought it was part of a
practical joke. But then she realized they were serious. And then she became furious.
Answer: D. the court system is corrupt.
